As part of Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth, the Bodleian Libraries will be running a variety of events, lectures and activity days. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about Tolkien’s languages, explore Tolkien’s Oxford and get up close and personal with Tolkien’s works.

Tom Shippey’s lecture will move from the detail of Tolkien’s languages to the (eventual) design, and even the philosophical issues embedded in Tolkien’s fiction.

Oxford Open Doors – Tolkien Day

Fantasy Summer School

11–13 September 2018

‘Here be Dragons’: the Oxford Fantasy Literature summer school is open to everyone. Speakers from the Oxford English Faculty and other UK universities will look at different aspects of the genre.
